Step #1: Get Real! Open up to your readers.
When you begin reading a blog, you typically know little to nothing about the person behind it. In some cases, the blogger may have posted their photo in the sidebar with their name and contact information… but much of the time, that’s it!
You can’t expect your audience to make a connection with you if you’re so reclusive. Open up, make it easy for your readers to get to know you. You can do this with a biography on an About page. Make sure to write about yourself, not your company or blog.
If you have a corporate or large blog with a many contributors, you should create an About page that has a bio for each of your authors.
Here are some tips for a great About page:
Give us your life story! –Write a brief description of your life: Where were you born? Where do you live now? Include exciting or inspiring events that led you from hardship to success.
Don’t hold back – People relate to underdogs, don’t hide your past mistakes or failures. Give examples of how you overcame obstacles to become who you are today.
Include a picture – Humans are visual creatures, we like to “put a face to a name”. Use a photograph of yourself or an avatar (a cartoon version of yourself).
