I studied Environmental Science and Resource Management at the University of Washington. I focused on green building practices and spent time in Costa Rica studying natural building practices.
From 2008-2014 I worked at a green building supply store committed to "providing the best selection of high-performance, affordable green building materials available anywhere" (Ecohaus / Green Depot). Hired in the call center, I learned everything I could about efficient, healthy practices, and building practices, ready to answer any questions.
I had a variety of roles, eventually managing our flagship warehouse and purchasing department. I studied building codes, LEED certifications, trade-offs, systems, etc. and attended workshops on the Living Building Challenge, Bullitt Center, Building Envelopes, SIPs and the like. With time the focus of my job shifted from products that I was passionate about, toward the operation of a business.
Inspired by years of wilderness travel, I enrolled in a Semester of Wilderness Medicine in 2015, and earned Wilderness EMT, and other lifesaving rescue certifications. I’m now working on a professional master's degree, studying GIS for Sustainability Management at the University of Washington. I care deeply about the built environment and community, with an emphasis on sustainability solutions. I'm looking for freelance work while I earn my degree.
I look forward to researching building energy efficiency and writing copy for this blog -- thanks!
