hello My requirement is as follows. I am using a 3d visualization tool vis5d to view my [login to view URL] this i need to call methods of vis5d module to create a .v5d format. to simplyfy iam calling a method in external module. method prototype is: extern int v5dCreate( const char *name, int numtimes, int numvars, int nr, int nc, const int nl[], const char varname[MAXVARS][10], const int timestamp[], const int datestamp[], int compressmode, int projection, const float proj_args[], int vertical, const float vert_args[] ); The seventh argument is const char varname[MAXVARS][10] giving following warning: warning: passing argument 7 of ‘v5dCreate’ from incompatible pointer type Iam calling the method char VarName[MAXVARS][10]={"I"}; v5dCreateSimple( .....,VarName, ... ) . To simplify your understanding see the following eg: #include void InputString(const char emp[1][1]){ printf(" %s",emp[0][0]); } void abc() { char a[1][1]={"Z"}; InputString(a); } int main() { abc(); }//main giving warning: warning: passing argument 1 of ‘InputString’ from incompatible pointer type i used trial and error just put the const before two dimensional [login to view URL] wont give the compiler error but end with segmentation fault. note:it is not giving any warning for single dimension array
