Connecting a PCB with a microcontroller and GSM module

Hi I would like to know a little bit more about the project requirements. I am done similar things in the past with 3G/4G but using USB modems and Atmel uControllers. Do you already have a hardware? Hi, I have several years of advanced experience in Arduino development and 15+ years in electronics/embedded development. I have done projects with GSM/GPRS modems both with SMS-based protocols, as well as with data connections. As a reference I normally use SIM900 shields for development. Also have done projects with GPS modules with standard NMEA output. Normally use cheap u-blox neo-6m modules with patch antenna - but any NMEA output will be easily parsed (don't know if you mean "GPS" instead of "GPRS" in your description...). For both GSM/GPRS and GPS modules, I have used them with both hardware and software serial ports implementations with standard Arduino libraries, as well as redefining buffer sizes to accommodate for high traffic applications, among other "advanced" changes in those libraries. Regarding you "soil moisture sensor", I believe this is some sort of analog input to the arduino and should be easy to implement software to read it. You didn't say, but the way the main loop could work is polling the analog input all the time and only sending data to some remote site (through GPRS) or an SMS to some number if some min/max thresholds are passed. Also, data could be sent if the input changed some percentage from previous reading... you name it...
