We design and manufacture vehicle and machine modifications. On the machine we fit a control panel that the operator can use to control different functions. This panel also has a password protected setup page that is accessed using a unique password for that machine. The password is currently calculated using an excel spreadsheet by our staff. However we would like to share this with some customers so that they can gain access to their own machines. The spreadsheet calculates the password from the numeric serial number of the machine. The formula is SIMILAR to this one, where "SN" is the machine serial number: Take the left 12 digits from: (3 x SN^4) + (9 x SN^3) - (27* SN^2) Take the right 6 digits from that answer = Password Example: Machine serial number = 15001 Password = 879049 The actual formula plus an excel spreadsheet with examples shall be provided to the winning bidder. The program should: Have a simple box where the user can enter the serial number and a button to generate and display the password. It should operate independently on a PC that does NOT have MS Excel installed and does NOT have an internet connection. It should look like a stand-alone program and not an excel spreadsheet - A basic layout is attached. It is desirable (if possible) that it should require each installation of the program to have a unique serial number/licence code.

This can be done using Visual Basic which will output an exe file which can be run on any computer. The problem is not very difficult so can be done quite quickly.

My proposal consists of a desktop application which generates the serial codes using the desired formula. The application is developed in VB.net, therefore it does not require Microsoft Excel and can run on any Microsoft operating system, starting from Windows XP onwards and on 32 and 64 bit. The desktop application shall be accompanied by a simple procedure for fast installation on PC. What do you mean for: it should require each installation of the program to have a unique serial number/licence code ? Each installation must generate different pairs of serial number/license key ? Hi, I believe this can be done easily using Python. Any python program can be converted into an executable that runs quickly. I can code the formula and make a dialog box, and package the program as an executable that doesn't need excel or internet to run. I understand that I'm newer than some of the other people on here, but I promise you I can succeed. Thank you.

I'm assuming that this would be installed on a Windows machine. If so, should be an easy project. However, I'm a bit unclear about your last requirement. Do you mean unique serial number for each installation of this program? If so, it is certainly possible, but it would mean that you'd need additional software to generate a valid serial number. And depending on any special request about how the serial number should be generated, the project may stretch to several days.
