We are looking for an experienced web designer to join a new development effort, The Artist Economy, launching in Toronto this spring. The Artist Economy utilizes an instrument of the sharing economy, time banking, to elevate the living standards of artists in particular. Time banking is similar to a barter system, except the service provider banks a credit for every hour of work they do, for which they can spend at a later date for any service offered by other members of the time bank. Services provided range from massages, to arts lessons, to meals, to drives, to assisting those with physical difficulties. There is infinite potential in what people can offer. This system allows individuals who find it difficult to operate in the monetary economy an opportunity to access otherwise unaffordable services, it allows for community building considering the transactions hinge on personal interaction (and the Artist Economy plans on hosting member events), it encourages a shift away from the capitalist model of exchange- which is unsustainable, and most importantly, it allows members an opportunity to gain from skills not valued in the monetary economy. We aim in particular to dispel the notion that artists have little real value to offer to society. They will be the centre of this economy, with annual membership fees (of $50 or less) being waved for them. This is an opportunity for artists, and our partners, to build a system together that allows us to eradicate the reality of the starving artist. We can build wealth by tapping into latent value within ourselves and sharing with others who want what we can offer. Operating in more than 300 countries with hundred of thousands of people, time banking has proven to function superbly. Thriving communities now rely very little on monetary economy, and have even expanded the system so as to incorporate the exchange of goods. This is our aim for the Artist Economy. We hope it to be a national project. It has the potential. -------We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, creative, dedicated and literate in WORDPRESS to design our website, which facilitates the exchanges. We will compensate said person with time credits, and if the work is good, this position will evolve with the expansion of the business to one that is paid.
