Configure Amazon S3 WHM Backup solution

I have a server running low on disk space. I have tried to configure a backup directory via an Amazon s3 bucket by mounting it as a folder and setting the WHM backups to this directory.
For some reason the backups never complete. I need someone with knowledge of WHM and s3fs who can properly mount and configure the directory so that the s3 backup is working.
