Better (Easier) Way to Manage Categories in Classifieds Program

currently I am using a classifieds program that has a dinosar for category management, each category has to be changed manually and cannot be moved once changed. You can visit my site at www.wagnpaws.com. Here is my problem. Right now my categories are in sections like A-B, etc. and then there are sub categories within each subcategory there are fields I would like to ad. Currently to make any change at all I have to edit every single category manually, this is an extremely time consuming task. When you start talking about the fields it becomes nearly impossible, if I want to enter 2 fields for each sub, it takes three screens for the process to be complete, imagine doing that hundreds of times. I started to and got about halfway through the A's and quit. I would either like to have some sort of way of changing the categories through an excel file that is then translated into whatever it is that contains the data. If this one is possible or something similar, I would like to know 1. will changing categories this way cause a problem with the ads that are currently placed, and 2. Could I change the names of main categories and then copy and paste stubcategories into new category. ie. take category A-B and seperate it out into A and B. The other way that I see this working would be to build a little script that will do all of the posting for me. I tell it which category or categories, I want certain information posted in and it runs until it has changed all. And if it comes across one that already has the proposed changes in it, it skips it. Something like that. That way I could make mass changes to the site. I want to be able to change the name of the category or ad onto it and ad fields and ad sub categories if necessary. Thanks!
