Design the Layout for a Popular Wiki Website

wikiHow is a popular online how-to manual that any Internet user can contribute to. We first launched in January, 2005 and are one of the top 1,000 visited websites in the United States according to MediaMetrix. We have been featured in the New York Times, Maclean's Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. The manual currently consists of over 16,000 articles. We use 100% open source software and release all our content under a Creative Commons license to allow sharing. We view wikiHow as a public service rather than a typical website. We are looking for a creative and functional layout for our website, that is both easy to use and pleasing to the eye. wikiHow runs on the same platform as Wikipedia, and has very similar features. Your task will be take an existing article page: [login to view URL] and create 2 versions of a new layout (one for logged in users, one for non-logged in users) that are creative and that satisfy the requirements outlined below. You will provide 2 HTML files an an optional CSS file and any optional image files that you find appopriate. When bidding, please post links to websites you have created layouts for in the past, or, preferably, a link to a portfolio of your work. Bids that do not contain examples of past work will not be considered. Additionally, please provide any details that describe your insight into this project. We are legally allowed to use the same layout as is done on Wikipedia and other "standard Mediawiki" sites. You should feel free to turn to these sites for inspiration. Ideally, we would like to have a site that looks somewhat distinct from Wikipedia, as the needs of a how-to manual are different than that of a encyclopedia. That said, as we have editors who edit Wikipedia and wikiHow, it is nice to have some similarity in the layout of the editing tools. See the attachment for overall requirements and more information. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
