car radiator heat transfer simulation in STAR-CCM+

Aim:

1. Comparing the simulation heat transfer with the experiment data

2. Comparing by using different types of coolant in car radiator; water and Carbon Nanotubes (CNT), a type of nanofluids is used

3. Getting a result of graph in terms of temperature differences, which clearly shows the CNT has more heat transfer compared to water

Explanation:

1. We are using the standard size radiator of Proton Wira in Malaysia. The CAD geometry are already been created. Just need to run the simulation with different parameters.

2. My senior have done this project experimentally, so my project is done in simulation software, and have to validate the results with his experimental data. The experimental reports are in Google Drive, i will give the link and my report's link, if u need to read the objective of my project, etc.

3. For the coolant fluid in simulation, we are using

i. Water

ii. Ethylene glycol

iii. CNT-nanofluids 0.02%

iv. CNT-nanofluids 0.1%

These fluids are tested running with different RPM. Use 800rpm, 1600rpm, and 2400rpm as according to my senior's experimental data, he is using 1000,2000 and 3000rpm in his project. I have data of Specific heat capacity for these fluids at temperature 80,85,90 degree Celcius from his report.

The detail of nanofluids used in experiment (i get from the report) are:

- Volume = 4 Litre (according to normal used of coolant)

- Diameter outer = 20 - 30 nm

- Diameter inner = 5 - 10 nm

- Length = 30 micro meter

- Purity of CNT: greater than 95%

- Thermal conductivity of CNT, K = 3000 W/mK

- Density = 2.1 g/cc

The results should be in the form of picture radiator showing colors of temperature differences and heat transfer rate as well as graph for both situation. And not to forget, the running simulation of fluid flow in the software. I need simple video for the simulation, for my presentation, assuming the video not more than 2minutes.

this project is using the software STAR-CCM+ by CD-Adapco
