I need to put some ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) software on a Raspberry Pi. The software must analyse jpeg images sent to it to determine what the number plate is. It must then save the number plate in a database accessible by web interface (it can export the raw data to an external database). The exported data needs to be very small file size (text NOT images)

Hello, the project you are asking for contain different phases of work. so I need to know which phase exactly we are talking here or are they all included? - plate detection - character segmentation - Binarization - Recognition how is the input done and what the image include full car image or just plate or just the character. which algorithm you are interested in and what is accuracy you are looking for. if you are interested we can discuses this in more details. I have done this project to a company here in belgium just for the recognition part using SVM and feature extraction and the result was significantly improved.

I am presently working with vision processing on the Raspberry Pi for a robotics project. I have code that can detect a license plate and extra the image. The optical character recognition portion will be new. One initial discussion will be the reliability of the entire process especially the OCR. Vision processing is difficult under good conditions and rapidly becomes difficult with adverse conditions, e.g. rain, fog, dirty vehicles, nighttime conditions. I have multiple Pis and camera on hand for testing. I use OpenCV for vision processing. I have bid high because this is a very open ended project but will adjust the bid as appropriate. It is best on this type of project to work out the final cost together. My time estimate is perhaps longer than others because we will need discussion about how to proceed given the challenges of this project. Please see my profile for additional information, including how I proceed with all my projects.

Hi, We are a UK based consultancy specialising in Linux, security, cloud and virtual infrastructure. We have 14 years experience of this which involves running our own hosting company and doing these sorts of projects on a regular basis. In short, this is exactly the sort of work we specialise in. We LOVE the Raspberry Pi and have used it for many projects such as... - A Stratum 1 time server using a GPS module to receive an accurate time signal. - A true random number generator using a USB radio tuned to static to feed entropy to Linux. - We use one to run a TV in our office to display any issues with the hundreds of servers we monitor and maintain. - We also use one to run a shared music service for those of us in the office. Anyone can add songs to and control the music. The music is also paused whenever any of our (VoIP) office phones ring. - We've also used them as webservers, mailservers, Wi-Fi hotspots and other more out of the box solutions. I run an apprenticeship for our new members of staff and each new employee gets a Raspberry Pi to play with :-) We should point out that a bit of research shows that a Raspberry Pi would only be able to analyse a picture per 10-13 seconds. You don't define where these Jpeg's are coming from or how quickly. I hope that gives you all the information you need. Please shout if you have any questions. Regards, Dan Benton

There are several approaches to get this project done: - Use C++ and OpenCV - Use Python and python bindings to OpenCV - Very custom solution ( do not use OpenCV library but implement everything by hand) I think the best way is to use python with OpenCV bindings. Also there already exists library to do it: openalpr So, the main idea is to compile this library to Raspberry Pi and modify it according to requirements. Give me a chance, my rating is low because i am new to freelancer. But i prove myself to be the best for this work.

I have four years experience with ARM embedded linux boards, including raspberry pi. As for project, it is not a problem to run database on raspberry pi, or to write into external database.
