Hello,
I need someone who speaks clear English to make about 400 ten second audio clips - normalize the volume - and convert to mp3. I've completed about half the project myself but to save time I thought I would give Freelance a try to see if it is cost effective. The site you will be making the audio clips for is a reading education site that teaches reading instruction for Grades 1 through 6. Since I already have half the project completed you can see exactly what I want to do:
1. VIEW WEBSITE
Go to [login to view URL]
2. CLICK GRADE LEVEL
In the upper left of the page click on the blue link for Grade 3.
You'll then see five columns of words.
3. CLICK "Read Words" LINK TO HEAR EXAMPLES I'VE DONE
Above each column of words is a speaker icon and a blue link that says "Read Words."
If you click on the link "Read Words" you'll hear me read the column of 7 words. What is very important is that you notice the pause I have between each word. This is done so the user can try to say the word before I do. Click on several of the "Read Words" links to see how I do it. Do not worry about the link that is above "Read Words" as this is for the sounds and I will be doing that.
4. VIEW THE WORDS YOU'LL BE RECORDING
Now click on the blue link at top left for Grade 4. You'll then see the Grade 4 words. Your job would be to clearly read the words in each column and save as an mp3. This will be done for all words for Grade 4 - Grade 5 - and Grade 6. There are 36 lessons in each grade. Since each lesson has 4 columns of words (except the first lesson in each grade has 5 columns) you'll be recording about 145 mp3 audio clips for each grade. Since you will be making audio for Grades 4, 5 and 6 you will have a total of 435 audio clips (145x3).
5. RECORD AUDIO
Your job would be to simply open my page on the left side of your screen and have your audio editor on the right side of page (I've been using Audacity). You can then always have the words organized in front of you while recording.
6. PREPARE AUDIO CLIP
After recording the audio on a "better than $10 microphone, you need to do the following:
A) Edit so there is less than half second in front of the clip and nothing at the end.
B) NORMALIZE VOLUME TO 0db.
7. SAVE AUDIO CLIP as MP3
Once the clip is edited and volume is normalized, then SAVE it as an MP3 to a folder on your DESKTOP. You can then email to me as a zip or upload via FTP to a directory I'll set up for the project.
Go ahead and check things out and feel free to ask any questions. From what I did for Grades 1, 2 and 3, I would think you could have the project completed in a couple days. I do want to stress that there must be a pause of about 1 second between each word when reading the words. This is very important! Before selecting someone for the job please record 4 audio samples of what you can do using the words I have in the first week of Grade 4.
Thanks,
Richard Pressinger
