I'm putting together a compilation of stories about why people have left a religion.
This compilation will be published as a book; you'll get publishing credit and a copy of the book in exchange for your story and it's accompanying rights. You'll also get $10 for a story, about 800-2000 words.
The stories must be a)non-fiction and true b)personal written in the first person.
I'll help to edit, format, and compose the stories. The prompts to think of:
What moment lead to you actually leaving religion? What experience, or realization?
What events lead to you deciding to leave your religion?
What were the repercussions- did you feel great, anxious, regret it, rejoin religion, join a new religion, realize you were missing something, etc?
Please write them chronologically. It's a bit awkward, but I can't really say if I'll use a story for sure until I've read it. I will guarantee (and copyright protects you) that I will not use your story without your permission NOR will I copy, rewrite, etc (still in breach of copyright) your story without your permission. This is really a call for people who are already writers, or who want to vent and express themselves as writers about a personal moment that reshaped their lives. This isn't a job to take on hoping to make a bunch of cash for making up a story. It's more about publication and credit.

I think I could help you out (: I've been brought up Christian, but for the last 2 years I've the faith I once had. My parents are divorced; my dad is very religious, while my mum is agnostic and refuses to believe in a God, let alone a male one. These contrasting opinions of theirs still influence me today. I still go to church with my dad and pray with him before I leave in the morning, because he still believes I am a Christian. Sometimes I pretend so well that I start to believe I am still religious again. It's all very confusing, though I know that I could never go back to having so much faith like I once did. This loss of religion is owing to many things, namely: my mothers influence, the hypocrisy of my dad (and other Christian people I know, the pressure of having to 'save' everyone from eternal damnation, and the state of the world that is so awful that I couldn't possible believe there's a God out there who is able to change these things but does not.
I could write +800 words on all of these influences, but am willing to do only one on a topic of your choosing. (:
