It can be done. I think what you have is memory footprint of a program. But how much time and effort will be required depends on the size of this hex file. Also, do you have the pic controller on which this hex code runs. There may be some trial and run required in order to understand some piece of code.

Hello sir. I'll be honest with you, that will be hard undertaking to perform but i guarantee you that I will do my best in order to bring back your lost source code. I have experience programming a z80 module. I was taught extensively on how to program these type of micro controllers. The process typically involves writing first the program in a language that we, humans can understand and then translating it into the language the micro controller can understand, HEX or binary. So in this case we will be reverse engineering the process and hopefully come up with the source code. And if after the due date is up and I have failed to deliver you can just pay me the amount that you see fit even free, and I will surrender all of my findings to you and explain to you everything that i learned about the project.
