Hello,

Two months ago, we hired a Pligg designer to take on a project of ours. We requested a professional & unique template made from scratch that matches the theme of our upcoming Pligg-based site. After multiple delays, the designer finally admitted he could not get the project done on time. Fortunately for us, he has agreed to give us all the PSD (Photoshop) files containing what he has so far. To our best knowledge, we are around 80% done with the design, 0% done with the skinning to HTML, and 0% done in some programming enhancements.

We are still planning to launch the public beta of our site by Thanksgiving day of this year (November 22, 2007). Thus, we are looking for a VERY EXPERIENCED, VERY QUALIFIED, Pligg EXPERT to take finish this project within this timeframe. Designer is REQUIRED to be adept with Web 2.0 technologies.

**** YOUR QUALIFICATIONS ****

You must be..

1. Very adept with Photoshop and vector graphic design programs (e.g. Fireworks) to finish off the design

2. Very very skilled with AJAX, PHP, and MySQL; to convert the design into a Pligg template. You will also be asked to integrate A LOT of AJAX components and writing several small additional elements that follow our algorithms (they are quite simple, so don’t worry!) If you’re good, our requests/additions should take no time at all.

3. Very familiar with the Pligg CMS. Look, I know a lot of you will contact me with a huge impressive portfolio, however, we are in a time crunch. We do not have time for you to “learn” how to skin Pligg templates. Unless your portfolio is mindboggling/amazing, you must have done this before.

4. Be able to (a) CHECK your email for at least TWICE a day (b) CHAT with us at least one time a day. (I have GTalk, MSN, AIM, YAHOO.. you’re choice). (c) STAY in constant CONTACT until the launch time.

5. Agree to finish the site by November 22nd, 2007 if not sooner. We absolutely need to get this site out the door. It’s been delayed for 2 months now and we do not want to deal with anymore flaky designers.

**** JOB DESCRIPTION ****

Since we already have most of the template design already done, the tasks that are left include:

FINISHING THE DESIGN PHASE 3-4 DAYS MAX (~ $200)

1. Finish the design. We have the latest iteration from the old designer & our comments ready to send. You would need to follow our comments and finish the design according to our likings.

2. We are currently not satisfied with the logo. During this design phase, you will be asked to remake the logo. (The main blocking of the site will stay the same, stuff needs to be moved around/added).

3. Create a temporary “splash” page containing the logo you will create. This will be placed on the site along with the launch date and a text box for interested users to submit their email for more information before launch. (If you’re too lazy to create a backend database for the script to dump users’ email addresses, you can do a simple PHP mail function to email interested peoples’ email addresses to a Gmail account.)

SKINNING PHASE 1-3 DAYS MAX (~ $100)

1. After we have approved the final beta design, you will be asked to SKIN (convert the template) and make it fit in the latest version of Pligg.

2. As you can see, you only have 1 to 2 days to skin this template. If you don’t know what you are doing, this process can take a much longer time. This process needs to be done very smoothly & compatible with IE6+, Firefox 1.5+, and Safari. We don’t want to have an inexperienced guy create something (a) incompatible (b) improperly coded (c) simply ugly.

CODING PHASE 4-5 DAYS MAX (~ $300-$400)

1. For the user profile page, we have a couple of important additions that will distinguish our site from the other generic Pligg based clones. You will be expected to manipulate some of the PHP code in files that’s BEYOND the general Pligg template PHP files.. (Again, this is why we need someone who knows Pligg very well.)

2. You also expected to ADD A LOT OF AJAX to the site. We will provide you samples of AJAX components from other sites. It will be your responsibility to clone these components. (Keep in mind, most of these “cool” looking AJAX usually can be found online for free in the open source community.)

3. Again. PHP, MySQL, and AJAX skills are mandatory.

DEBUGGING PHASE 1 DAYS MAX + Support up to 1 month after launch

1. Pligg is pretty stable to begin with --- so there should not be that much debugging. We will concentrate on testing mainly the PHP files that you changed.

2. We ask the designer stay in communication with our team after the beta launch to fix any outstanding bugs. (People from your side should correct any security flaws or outstanding coding flaws. We will pay additional money if we deem more features are required.)

3. We are looking for a long-term relationship with a designer/design company. If your firm does an awesome job, we have other projects

**** PAYMENT ****

SO, the total price of the project will be in the range of $600 to $700.

KEEP IN MIND. 80% of the DESIGN IS ALREADY DONE! We have a huge PSD file that contains all the layers intact. We need an experienced programmer/designer to finish this off.

We will deliver the payment DURING the debugging phase. Final price may be negotiable depending on your productivity, work ethic, and the final appearance of the site. Bottom line is $600 IF ALL DEADLINES and REQUESTS are met and IF you promise to stay in constant communication via EMAIL/IM through this whole process.

The project IS NOT THAT HARD in my opinion. If you’re good with Pligg and good with Photoshop you can definitely pull this off (even maybe in 7 days!) The times that we set are just the ABSOLUTE hard deadlines. If you can do a great job at a much faster rate, we would love you even more.

*** THE NEXT STEP ***

To speed up this process, please send us links of only 3 samples from your portfolio.

1. Your BEST PLIGG DESIGN. If you have a lot of Pligg experience in the past, just chose the most aesthetically appeasing piece.

2. Your BEST FRONT END DESIGN. Choose a work of yours that LOOK the best. (If you think #1 is your best looking piece, just send your 2nd best work. If you have designed stuff other than Pligg, you may chose another site.)

3. Your BEST BACKEND WORK. Please select the most complicated backend work that you’ve done.

APPENDIX A – WHAT IS PLIGG

Pligg ([url removed, login to view]) is an Open Source CMS that works like the popular social news website Digg. ([url removed, login to view]). For more information check out their project site, forums, and wiki.

APPENDIX B – AJAX TO ADD

We are going to ask you to add SEVERAL AJAX features to the Pligg template. Why? The original goal of this project was to create something truly unique, something that stands out. We want to differentiate our site from other Pligg clones.

Samples of things you will be required to implement:

1. AJAX Welcome Section. On [url removed, login to view], the first thing you will notice is a strip of collapsible instructions between the header and the rest of the content. Please implement some sort of div area that shows up for new users only.

2. Draggable AJAX boxes. Go to [url removed, login to view] and check out how you can moves stuff around on the left bar. (Note: the bare Pligg template allows you to collapse these boxes.. we would like you to keep those

3. AJAX Top Users/Top Articles Sliding Mechanism. Go to [url removed, login to view] On the bottom there are gray boxes that slide back and forth when the mouse however over them. We’re going to have our top 3 users, top 3 articles, in a similar AJAX slider on the bottom of our main page.

These 3 samples among other things will be AJAX modules we would like you to duplicate/implement.

APPENDIX C - PLIGG PRO PLUG-INs TO ADD

Pligg recently announced that they will be selling modules from their “pro” section of their site. These modules are really cool and have all been created by the original Pligg platform designers. We would like you to implement most of the features in the following package.

[url removed, login to view];p=26

The most important feature from this pack is the WYSIWYG module for posting articles. We would definitely like the users to have WYSIWYG access when posting articles.

We know this package costs $49.99. If you feel do you not have the time nor energy to implement this yourself, then we will talk about splitting the price.

APPENDIX D – SO WHAT’S THIS SITE ABOUT ANYWAYS??

Sorry about the length of this post. We wanted to be as detailed as possible to attract only the serious designers. Yes, if you noticed, we did not discuss the theme of the site. We have all the documents ready to go once we select our designer. Don’t you worry --- if you’re selected you’ll have everything you’ll ever want to know.

ONLY THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SKILLS AND WHO CAN FEASIBLE ACCOMPLISH THIS PROJECT ON TIME SHOULD POST.

*** TO REITERATE: THE NEXT STEP ***

To speed up this process, please send us links of only 3 samples from your portfolio.

3. Your BEST BACKEND WORK. Please select the most complicated backend work that you’ve done.

I'm not sure why most of you are bidding well above the range of the prices that I'm offering. This only tells me you are not reading the whole post... concerning pricing, (for those of you who did not see it for the first time), please reread the following:
