Alter a book index to subtract 8 from each page number

I have a 30-page text file that is a book index. Of the format: subjectA 345-56 subject B 8,8,276-93 The book was shortened and each page number if 8 higher than it should be. So, I need to subtract 8 from each page number. I think this is best done with a string manipulation script in PERL, but it could be done in PHP.
