build an excel spreadsheet to track time off

I have used various version of the type of file you are looking for so I have some practical ideas of how to make it work. The Excel file will have 12 tabs, one for each month. The employees down the side and the days across the top. I was thinking Saturday and Sunday would be shaded a different color but it sounds like that might not work for you. I will also have the employee names and column headings frozen so you'll be able to see them not matter where you are at in the calendar. The amount of days allocated will be next to the name on the left and the amount left will be shown at the end of the month. Another option would be to have a summary tab with an annual summary for each employee. Question, are the allocated days (sick/vacation) specific to a month or are they an annual value?
