A software program for organisation (by category) of a database of song lyrics

I am a song-writer and poet and over the years have amassed a huge collection of lyrics and concepts. I would like to develop/own software that enables me to:
- set headings for many different categories
- organise categories in the order that i desire
- attribute lyrics to any category that they fit in to (this may be categories as varied as: Politics / Plants / Cars / the colour Red etc) at the click of a button or by using drop down menus
- cross reference this file with another that organises lyrics by rhyme scheme
The data is currently saved as several 'Text Edit' files (I need it to operate on Mac Yosemite and Snow Leopard)).
I have already manually constructed a strict template to be followed.
It will also require colour-coding options.
It should also be a Desktop application (not a web application)
