Use TelescopeApp as the basic platform and perform the following modifications:
Access:
- You must be logged in to view the content.
- Add an authentication system to the signup process. We will have a list of data fields to match for use in this authentication process. However, there needs to be a contingency if the data fields do not match (or we don’t have them) which allows someone to request a manual authentication. This manual process will automatically alert the site administrator. (Look at the signup process on [login to view URL] as an example.)
- Some sort of interface to load more data for the authentication process. This could be as simple as a file which can be updated and loaded via FTP but we need to be able to modify this central data field for the authentication.
- We need a rule which prevents users from seeing the posts and comments of other users who share two specific data fields in their signup process. To use a hypothetical example, if two users are ‘programmers’ at ‘IBM’, they should not see each other’s activity. This rule should be the default, but we need a way to manually turn it off for certain ‘job title’ and ‘employers.’
Appearance:
- A landing page that explains the purpose of the community and invitations to create an account or log in. (Look at [login to view URL] as an example. Since they require a user to be logged in to see the community content, they have a landing page explaining what they are and what they do.)
- Make the color scheme consistent with a logo we will provide
Other:
- When a user clicks on a post title it should take them to the actual post instead of the outbound link.
- Add an email signup form to the banner and during the signup process that integrates with mailchimp (I think this capability is built in).
- Must comply with Section 508 Accessibility Standards ([login to view URL])
Content Creation:
- We need a standard list of “tags” or “categories” which users can choose from when creating content. There should be standard categories and then subcategories under those categories. So if someone selects (hypothetically) “meteor” as the category, they should then have an option for “telescopeapp” as a subcategory.
- A way for users to add their own category (or tag) to a post if the pre-existing categories are not available. However, we need a way to see what tags are being created so we can add new standard categories and subcategories in response, standardize them, and then retroactively change the user-created tags to what we have chosen.
- Need a “favorites” type function where people can save articles that people have posted into their own collection. Look at the “add to your collection” function on [login to view URL] (also built using TelescoppApp) as an example. A key difference, however, is that the items saved should fall under the above mentioned standard headings and subheadings so there is uniformity.
- These “collections” will be the main content of people’s profiles. They should sort by the standard categories and subcategories.
