The website to be built is to allow victims of child sex abuse (CSA) to enter a report of that abuse into a confidential database and to offer links to organisations that can offer support to victims.
Many alleged offenders are currently not brought to justice as an accusation by a victim merely creates a “one person’s word against another” situation. Thus the allegation cannot be proved beyond all reasonable doubt. However many offenders are serial offenders and if they can be linked to multiple accusations then a convincing case for the prosecution can be created. This is the aim of the database, which will be shared with the Police. Users will have no access to the database.
The project will also need a secure encrypted database but this could potentially be a separate project.
Although the website is a private venture the concept has been discussed with the office of the child abuse investigation lead for the UK Police. They are being kept abreast of its creation and have raised no objection other than to advise compliance with the UK Data Protection requirements.
