Animation in upbeat graphic novel style

We need to animate three segments from a storyteller's on camera presentation. It is a happy story, and intended for an adult audience. The screen time of the animation will be 2 to 2.5 minutes.
I want a modern, graphic novel look, artsy, but not heavy and dark. We can talk about the movement of frames, within frames, etc. in order to maximize the impact without having to go to full blown animation.
I am very interested in a fresh visual style. No anime, please.
Here's the idea of the story:
"Away in St. Martin with my husband and 2 babies, my 80 year old grandmother Mama, came along to be an extra pair of hands. Every morning at 5 am baby would wake up and Mama would take the baby out for a walk in the island. She would sing her Mama's lullaby as she strolled. One morning a 6 foot young man, jogger passed by and backtracked . "My Bubby used to sing that song to me! Please can you sing for me?"
