Drupal members' profile enhancement

I have a Drupal 5 website and I would like to enhance the members' profile so that it is more friendly and entertaining for each member.

I would like to hear your ideas and proposals, but basically I would like a better layout with more personalizations so that members have their own photo album, guestbook (which has already been installed) or a place where friends can leave comments, personal info (such as interests, favorite things, etc), and anything that will make it fun and interactive. Essentially, I'd like Drupal to function more like Ning.

If necessary the site can be upgraded to Drupal 6.
