Chiropractic care for pregnant women
There is good news and bad news; I will start with the good news; the chiropractic care is not contraindicated during pregnancy, actually, most chiropractors are well trained to work with pregnant women. But the bad news is that you have to be very careful when choosing a chiropractor to treat you if you are pregnant. Moreover, there are certain chiropractors who have certain certifications for pre and post-natal care, like: ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) membership, DACCP (Diploma with ICPA), CACCP (Certified with advanced ICPA training), and Webster Certified, who works specially with breech positions. Besides for a convenient chiropractic care, there are special types of tables for pregnant women which are safe and compliment with their spines.
But why should a pregnant woman see a chiropractor?
Well, pregnancy period is biological and hormonal changes; these changes might cause your abdomen to protrude and your back curve to increase. There are marked pelvic and postural alterations. A regular chiropractic care during pregnancy can successfully offer you a healthy pregnancy, prevent you from feeling sick or nauseous, decrease your labor and delivery time, treat your back, neck, and joints complaints, and finally, lower your chances for cesarean section.
