I want a reasonably simple spreadsheet or database set up for me. I realize that for now, an excel spreadsheet will be simpler, but I think as it grows and more data is entered into it, it will be easier to make historical comparisons and see trends (week vs week, quarter vs. quarter etc) better with a database, allowing me to make my own queries. I like the way Excel provides charts and graphs to view comparisons too - so I am definitely open to any ideas for the best solution. I know how I want it laid out and I know what data I want it to report - please see attached document, so it should be a reasonably quick job. If it looks nice too, great! Windows desktop software is also an option. I would also like to be able to easily share the data, or allow other people to see it and open it or change it, but I would need it to be password protected and I would need to set the user privilege levels. What is the best way to share this? Have a software that anyone can open? Facebook? MS Excel? How to update it and save old weeks? I do not want to overwrite each week. By the end of the year, I need 52 separate files. Please let me know your thoughts, and if I can have this by the end of the week. Thank you.

ID : 8302709 Greetings, We are interested to work on this project, please find my comments inline with yours, 1.I want a reasonably simple spreadsheet or database set up for me. =>Ok 2.I realize that for now, an excel spreadsheet will be simpler, =>Ok 3. but I think as it grows and more data is entered into it, it will be easier to make historical comparisons and see trends (week vs week, quarter vs. quarter etc) better with a database, => Ok,  I also recommended use MS-Access for your application because its very efficient to work with MS-Access than excel, Because there are several advantages of using or maintaining the database than maintaining spreadsheet, excels etc. Such as multiple users can accessing same data at time, by providing login system we can provide the security for our important data from unauthenticated person, we can maintain large amount of data large in database, it makes user friendly, can also access the data at same time by multiple users which are located from different-different locations, etc. If you want to go with MS-Access then Let me know that version of the MS-Access (MS-Access 2003 or 2007 or onwards) you will prefer? Let me know that do you want front end and back end are separated or combined? (Front end contains forms, modules, reports and Back end contains only tables) I recommend you, it is better to keep both separated because it makes the maintenance of project simple. HI there. I am a professional freelancer with experience creating report files to keep up with the data monthly, and to analyze it. I would think MS-Excel is a good option to work on this project, as it has many tools to analyze data, as well as it capable to hold lot of data (a million rows). Also, it will allow you to use macros to show graphs, save monthly data in separate files, and share it with other people. Hi, I've worked with MS Office integration projects and have used Access as primary database before. I am knowledgeable with VBA macros if necessary to customize Excel behavior in managing data from Access. Data Management Use Excel as our data entry and view component and link the spreadsheet to Access for storage. Do you want all 52 Excel files created at once? Sharing If you are within a Windows-networked environment, a folder share will be sufficient for also setting user privileges. If sharing across the internet a free cloud-service would probably do (e.g Dropbox). Security Configure password protection on the Excel file itself.

I have over 20 years of experience working in large banks in financial analysis roles creating spreadsheets and databases that meet needs similar to your project. I agree with your assessment that this should be done in Access. My plan is to develop a database application in Access that is robust and performs the following functions: 1). Data entry for direct entry, 2). An import function so you can input data into an Excel template if you prefer, 3) a reporting module for reporting directly in Access, and 4) an export tool so you can work out of Excel as you will undoubtedly need to do. We can set it up so it's password protected. In terms of sharing the application with others, I can set it up so they can use the application for viewing reports easily. I would need a little more information from you if you want remote users to have the ability to input data. There are different methods to do this, but I need to understand who the users are and whether or not they have MS Access. All of this doable though, and will be a fun project. Greetings from Ukraine! I guess I have a solution for you: 1. Use Excel sheets as an input interface to you database, its really comfortable. MS Access can easily be linked (i.e. use data directly from Excel table in a read only mode) to Excel book, 1 table per sheet (or per named data range specified). - I can do it after you provide the Excel sheets. 2. After the linking of all needed existing data one has to arrange relationsheep-connections between them to use different querries, create new tables on the basis of existing ones, make reports etc. - I can do it having chat with you regarding "what is what" and "what is needed" among your data. 3. You are flexible with representing of the output data: - use sophisticated Access querries/reports, exoprt them to tiff/pdf etc, - export obtained data to some Excel sheet and do whatever you want then, or - (my lovely! I do it with my data quit often!) Excel can be linked to Access database via querry, so one get a read only gates into the database, then use received data to build charts, tables, whatever else. - I can do some of basic things you'd like, so later you'll be able to do the same without any help (if not, I'll advice/help you in case :) ). As for requested "52 weekly files": I see it as a querry: "enter week#" and get a table to look/export etc. So, all questions you asked about access rights, sharing etc become very clear - as simple as Excel sheets you already experienced with. Hi Considering your budget constraints, I will suggest to work with the existing excel based system. I can do all that you want in Excel and also in a Desktop based or a Web based system.
