1. Overview

Panda Adventure is a "role playing adventure game", a game in which you play the part of a Chinese panda adventurer traveling through a desert land, an ocean, and a snowing mountain filled with evil mummies, hostile monsters, deadly sea creatures and wild animals. By fighting and solving problems, a smart panda makes his way past various challenges to final get magic golden bamboo on the top of a snowing mountain. As he does this, he grows stronger through experience, increasing the "level" so that he is able to take on ever more difficult challenges. He also acquires new fighting skills such as Chinese Kong Fu and Tae Kwon Do, or magical items such as bamboos that make him more powerful. He can also learn magical spells that allow him to heal himself, augment his fighting abilities, or weaken or damage his enemies.

There are several ways that the panda can interact with the environment while walking across. By walking into an object (that is, trying to step onto the space where it is) he attempts to take some action on it:

1. He can open a transfer door by use the wonderful organ to reach it.

2. He can talk to a friendly creature by walking into it. Creatures will either give a single statement, or present him with a dialog in which he may choose his answers to their statements.

3. He can pick up an item by walking over it.

4. He can attack an enemy by walking into it or play Kung Fu after he pick up certain number of items. Enemies will always be moving toward him and trying to attack his back or face to him.

5. He can access the game menu by pressing the "m" key. The menu allows him to uses and equips items or skills from his inventory or he, saves and load games, and cast spells.

When casting a spell, letter labels will appear over each creature on screen. He can target one of them by either clicking on it, or typing its letter. He can also see the creature's name and condition by hover the cursor over it.

2. Planned features

This game consists of three levels:

Level I A cute Chinese panda goes across the desert land. The panda will overcome all kinds of hardships and dangers by himself, use the wonderful organ to reach transfer door to the next level. Eventually beats evil mummies.

Level II A cute Chinese panda swims across the ocean. The panda will overcome harder hardships and dangers from the sea by himself; get to the next level by successfully swimming across the ocean. Eventually beats dangerous and deadly sea creatures.

Level III Finally, the Chinese panda climbs the snowing mountain. The panda will overcome hardest hardships and dangers via himself, use spells and his Kung Fu power to hit the top of the mountain grabbing the golden bamboo. Eventually fights dangerous wild animals.

3. Design

I will use Unity to design this 2D adventure game and use C# as the script language.

I will add animation and sound features on the game.

I will use Photoshop to draw the panda, enemies, items, and backgrounds.

4. Resources

Probably the most complicated part of this project is the animation and dialogs, in which the panda will play Chinese Kung Fu and text with links embedded in it needs to be drawn on the screen. I will need to figure out how to animate the panda to play Kung Fu, how to draw text onto the screen, and how to highlight the portions of the text that are links. I will also need to be able to figure out when the cursor is over a piece of text, to light up that text. I will find a few links online that might be able to help me.
