I want to be able to start and stop some linux processes through a browser. To do this I would like to use Web Services. The work would be to create a web service that will allow: 1 - Starting a process from a list of 3 processes. These processes can be hard coded: process 1 = "df -h >> var/log/disk_usage". process 2 = "rm -f /var/log/disk_usage". process 3 = "xterm" 2 - Stopping a running process that was started from (1). In the above list this will only really work for process 3, but demonstrates stopping a long-running process. 3 - Get a list of running processes started from (1). Again this will only really work for process 3. Also note that a simple "ps" will not work as there may be other xterms started outside of this web service. Ideally the solution will know when a process is finished without having to continually check for the process. For example if a process is forked it will receive a notification on termination, and will then update the running process list accordingly. A simple browser GUI is required to prove the solution. This can be as simple as possible and no effort is needed to make it look pretty. A few buttons and a bit of text will suffice. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Linux = Redhat, Fedora or Centos. Please let me know if you want to use a different Linux OS as I will need to check if is compatible with other applications I am currently using (for example I have found freeBSD a real pain to use with some applications). Any internet browser will do. For the back end I would like to use Apache as I currently have it on some systems. If you wish to use something else let me know the reason why and I'll consider it. I am pretty open-minded about this - for example if your solution requires the use of ASP.NET and mod-mono on Apache I don't have a problem with that - so long as it works on linux in some way that is all that counts.
