C++ function to generate unique file name

I need to generate a unique filename for files. This bid is for writing a Linux C++ class/function that will, given a file name, generate a MD5 checksum based on the contents of the file and then rename the file with the MD5 checksum plus the current second and millisecond timestamp. After this completes, the original file should be deleted and the new name of the file should be passed back to the calling program as a variable. In the function, filename extension should be what the extension of the new filename is. The function should be called as follows: md5rename (original_file, filename_extension); I would like the function to be contained in a header file that I can include in any C++ program. Please provide a sample program using the function. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.
