The places to visit in the city includes Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Rose Garden besides Others. Sukhna Lake , situated within the city limits is a man- made lake , an ideal place for boating . Rock Garden, the brainchild of Nek Chand, a road inspector, has been created by industrial and urban waste. Looking at the statues, gardens and waterfall one really gets an idea as to how the waste materials could be converted into pieces of Art. Rose Garden is the Asia's largest, spread over 30Acres and is in the proud possession of over 1600 different species of Rose plants.
The city has a number of malls where one can enjoy shopping. Chandigarh has many Restaurants, pubs located in Sector 21 where one can enjoy eating. Sector 17, city Centre is the busiest places where one can visit for shopping.
Other places worth visiting includes Pinjore Garden, located 22km from Chandigarh on the Ambla -Shimla road. The 100 acres garden is the venue of the Annual Mango festival. One can enjoy the beauty of the hills from the garden.
About 45km from Chandigarh, Morni hills in the Panchkula district is known for its pleasant climate and serves as one of the Weekend destinations by the people in Chandigarh.
Another most sought after location, situated 70km from Chandigarh and 1,927m above the sea level is the beautiful town of Kasauli. The place has beautiful gardens,and is surrounded by pine trees .Monkey point situated 4km from the city bus stand offers magnificent view of the Chandigarh city and the river Sutlej. A small temple of Lord Hanuman is situated on the top of the hill.
Chandigarh is known for its Punjabi traditional food, prepared in the earthen tandoors, and offers a unique flavor. Naan, Tandoori Roti, Kulcha and Parantha's prepared in the tandoor are a must to try. For the Non-vegetarians Tandoori chicken and chicken tikka are really delicious and worth trying. Vegetarian dishes include makki di roti & Sarson ka Saag , Dal Makhni, Paneer Tikka and Punjabi Chole .
