**Get paid for Open Source code!** I need help to embed an MP3 player into a Web page, using an existing open source project. The player should meet the requirements below, and I need you to provide basic instruction as to what to download, etc. *Background:* Right now, I'm using Gary Rosenzweig's [FLVplayer][1] to play audio on Web pages like [this one][2]. It's free, actually *intended* for distribution, (not just "borrowed"), and straight-forward to configure as well as for visitors to use. The preparation process makes perfect sense for video, but it's a bit circuitous for audio-only, converting an MP3 to an MPG to an FLV when there's no actual video content. Plus, the extra FLV file roughly quadruples diskspace usage on the web server, which is going to become a problem, as we will exceed our limit with the planned amount of audio. ## Deliverables In short, I'd really like the exact same thing, specifically tuned to play MP3's directly. Assume JavaScript and Flash are available on the client side (and I give a direct link to the MP3 if they're not). Ideally, I'd like the exact same set of controls, i.e., play, pause, rewind-to-beginning, volume control, (and possibly mute), visual progress meter, and ideally, ability to select any new starting point on said meter. (It'd be sweet if it was identical in appearance to that of the FLVplayer, but that's certainly not a requirement.) I don't need the visual representation of the audio, (e.g., album cover); right now, I just set the height to zero. Ideally, all I should have to do is to change one parameter in the embedded HTML to play a different MP3. I'd strongly prefer to only have to modify the HTML; I'd really rather not have to juggle multiple JS files for each MP3. I don't *want* a "playlist"; there will be one set of controls per individual MP3. If autoplay or autorepeat functions exist, I should be able to easily turn these off! Another requirement is that the web pages can reside in different directories, but all point to the central set of files. i.e., I shouldn't have to make copies of anything, (e.g., .JS and .SWF files), just because the .HTML web pages aren't all in the same directory themselves. I would *really* prefer to use something that is already [available as a SourceForge project][3] (e.g., MusicPlayer, CoolPlayer, BeatMan, FlowPlayer, others??), but my brain is going numb when I read statements like, "The MIME type for XSPF documents is application/xspf+xml. It is NOT text/plain, audio/xspf, or text/xml. THIS IS IMPORTANT." ([Source][4]) I mean, c'mon, I just want to modify a bit of HTML to make things work, not modify the server's MIME configuration! Your job will be to give me a simple set of instructions, along the lines of, "Download these five files, modify this one in these three places, upload them here, and be very careful not to do this." With all due respect, I am going to want to download the files directly from the source, myself. I'm hoping I don't need to provide graphics, but I guess I can copy and paste from the FLVplayer controls that I already have; I've already done this once. So, in summary, you don't have to actually write any software for this project; just tell me how to use what's already available! You'll see from my prior projects that I treat people very fairly on RentACoder ratings. This may be a good project for someone who has the right technical skills, but is new to RentACoder, and is looking to build their reputation here, rather than earning a lot of money right away. * * *I'm pretty flexible and easy to work with. I tried to make sure that this job is as completely specified as humanly possible. If you have **any** questions, *please* ask them! I have found that it is far better to risk a bit of embarrassment than to spend time working on an assumption which later proves to be wrong. Do not worry that a question may seem silly; just *let me know* and I will be very happy to answer you! We've been a Buyer here since July '05, with a rating of 9.9 ("Excellent") out of 10, with over 75 ratings, and we've now paid on over 95 jobs. We've completed both security verifications, we have a non-action ratio under 5% ("very good"), and we've lost 0 out of 10 mediations / arbitrations. | ![][5] | PGP is **not** required for this project. | | ![][6] | An NDA is **not** required for this project. | We will retain full legal rights to the code and/or data upon completion. All code and/or data is and becomes *our* intellectual property! You will *not* have any rights to the code and/or data in any fashion. **Thank you for your consideration and for bidding through RentACoder!** * * *Copyright ? 2007, RentACoder Buyer [notecom][7]. **All Rights Reserved.** Reproduction without permission is strictly prohibited. * * * 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform While you should be familiar with Flash and JavaScript, the actual deliverable here will be a paragraph or two of English text. The web server appears to be Windows-based, although that should actually not matter. In fact, I was able to "install" the FLVplayer on my own desktop machine, without any web server running at all!
