We have a Unix server for Progress 9 database and Vsifax. Don’t want to use tape backup, rather use hd-based backup approach similar to this: [login to view URL]
(If the page happens to be down, it describes the use of the Unix 'dd' command to create an exact bit copy of a drive.")
The server has: SCO OpenServer 5 4 SCSI drives (not-RAID) The primary scsi drive contains the OS and applications extra power and scsi cable plug in are available The OS is entirely based on character-type displays (i.e. no X Windows) We have a new IBM ULTRASTAR 18.2GB SCSI that we want to make the new main+boot drive. We need instructions and instant messenger support on how to: Configure the drive after physical installation Locating boot/main drive within the OS and physically Bit copy the existing main drive to the new IBM drive. (The original drive is about 8 gig of which about 4 gig is used ; we don’t care if the bit copy makes the new drive effectively 8 gig instead of 18) Make copy the new main/boot drive Need someone who has both experience with these tasks and the ability to explain the process to non-Unix people. We are located in GMT-7 (US Mountain) time zone for IM support.
