Price Comparison Site

PRICE COMPARISON WEBSITE We are building a price comparison website. It is modelled on Pricerunner ([login to view URL]). We need a website that has the same functionality and ability. We will be using English only. We need the ability to post adverts and banners as well. The website will be the same as Pricerunner, but more visual. I need to award the project as soon as possible. Design is also very important to me, as important as functionality, I need a programmer wh o also puts emphasis on how good the site works and looks. This is a long-term project, it will require the programming to be as user friendly as possible in case another programmer needs to pick it up. But what we want is to find a programmer to have a long term relationship with. We forsee this project requiring programmer assistance on a regular basis for at least the next 5 years. We want to make this site to be the very best possible. We need a programmer that wants to make this site, their best project ever. This must be the ultimate portfolio site. > NO ON-LINE PURCHASING - ALL OFF-LINE!! The site does not have any purchasing or e-commerce abilities. The site is only a listing service. No secure payment systems are required. We would like to include a simple credit card payment system for clients. This is simply for payment for the banner advertising. > BANNER MANAGEMENT The site will derive money from banner adverts. So there needs to a very good banner management system in place, that can give accurate statistics of how many times each banner was viewed. Banners need to be controlled via an admin panel that will ensure that the banners are placed in the right section.. eg. Camera banner for Digital Cameras. Banners will be sold and booked on a weekly basis. Need to be able to control and plan these through the admin banner control. We can upload the banners into a banner folder and input the link to the banner. So a complex .asp based banner upload system doesnt need to be made. > LOG-IN As you see on the front page, we only have a log on button with no fields. When a user click on this. I want a pop up screen that will ask for e-mail address and password. Users must choose their password when registering, we will not generated passwords. When registering the will need to fill in the normal form. On the register page, we will also expain the b enefits of registering and the monthly prizes and give aways. Users who choose not to register, will still be able to use the site, but they will not be able to filter the listings as much as registered users can. > LISTINGS Users who want to list, need to register first. All listings will be verified by Admin. We also need an option to allow selected advertisers to be able to post listings live. These advertisers do not need to be verified after they have proven themselves. When a listing is placed, the user must be able to upload a picture, this picture is going to appear with a specified size and location. It will most likely need to be dynamically sized for about three image sizes. We want to use a form that will input the product description and details. We also want the user to be able to specify if the product can be listed for a specific time period. For example if a product is on special for only one weekend. > LISTING S UB-CATEGORIES Have a look at the example sub-category page. Digital cameras. As can be seen here with Digital cameras. We will need to have a dynamic ability to specify price ranges, or input the price range breaks manually. Then we will ne to customise forms, for example, if you listed cameras, you will need to have options to select 4MP, 5MP, 6MP, etc. We need to be able to be comfortable to be able to rely on our programmer to do changes such as this quickly and reliably as we need the changes. You can imagine clients will request these changes to be done quickly. E ach new listing of a product, will have the default basic form, them based on the category, we will customise as we go. > TOP 5 PRODUCTS IN CATEGORY: Then we want to list the top 5 products in that category. This will need to be done dynamically. The product that are viewed the most, will go to the top of the list. > "HOT PRICE HERO" LISTING Once a supplier has managed to hold the top price on the product for over a week, their listing will change to yellow and have a header at the top to list "Hot Price Hero". Text will be next to this to say how many days they have kept their place as no.1 > TOP 20 SUPPLIER LIST The top 20 suppliers will be listed on a special page. These top 20 suppliers will be based on their ranking on various product list. We need a system to be able to allocate their position and location on the top 20 supplier list. > VIEWING A PRODUCT PAGE The product page will have a picture of the product, a basic descr iption, a link to view a full page of expanded product specifications (if available), a product rating from users. Only registered users may place a product review. Below the product is what the whole site is about - the hot price, listed by cheapest to expensive. There are three headings, Vendor, Location, Hot Price - by default the list is viewed by Price. The user can select to click on the other headings to view the list by Vendor or Location (Alphabetical). Registered users will have the ability to also specify that they only want to view listings close to them, determined by city. So they can choose which regions they want to view. > FIND A PRODUCT (SEARCH) This will allow users to be able to view products by category, brand or to be able to do a search. The search function will allow the user to input the model number or do a search for products, such as DVD players, or even "recordable DVD player". The search function must be very effective. We need a search function that can be intuiative as model numbers can be typed wrong, the seach must be able to match to the closest number possible. > PRODUCT CATEGORIES As the site develops, we need the ability to dynamically change the product listing. For example, we may start with digital cameras as a category, but as more categories are added, it may mean digital cameras fall under photography. Through the admin panel, we need to be able to add catefories, rename then and move them in and out of sub-categories. This ability means we can let the site develop dynamically. > LOG IN AND REGISTER Users who login will have the ability to filter their lists by location or brand. We will also be running a competition with a monthly draw to all users. But the biggest and most important feature is that users who register can request that price updates are e-mailed to them on specific products. For example, if they vi ew a product and are not happy with the price, they can request an option to be e-mailed if the price drop below a specified amount. Or they can simply request each new price listing on that product to be mailed to them. > MAILING LIST We will make use the system created by the programmer or a bulkmailing program to keep in touch with the database, But ideally we would like to be able to send out from the website. So to have a page that we can design in HTML, then send out to be database of registered users. When users register the agree to accept out e-mails. For the most part the e-mails being sent to them will mainly be pricing information. These e-mails will have two links, one to discontinue the current e-mail request setting and another to view the page online. E-mail will be sent in HTML and will be identical to the site page. Once a month we will send out an e-mail, informing the users base on the latest news and the monthl y prize winner. > IN THE FUTURE - TO COME Once the site is fully operational, we will be extending the site by including an sms system. Users will be able to sms the product number and get the top 5 hottest prices smsed (texted) back to them. You do not need to do this now. We just need to bear this in mind for the future.
