I have an SQL2008 database. The data needs to be imported into a SQLite database and cleaned up along the way. I need an importer which will read either the SQL 2008 directly or subsets of the data exported out as csv files. I can provide the complete database and explain in detail exactly what needs to be done. The import process will require some human decision making, the aim of the importer is to provide an efficient way to make this happen. I don't think it is overly complicated, reading the files, regular expressions to help filter and map which fields should be mapped to the fields in the new database. The project is for my company and the budget is reasonable. At a guess perhaps it is 40 hours work? Let me know if you are interested. I want to work with someone in Australia - as this is easier for language and timezone - as I am in Perth. I would like it to be written in Python as I have some experience in it and can learn something along the way.

I have +10 years of experience in Python programming! You are right, best language to do such scripting task is Python. I am expert in transferring data between different types of databases. I will use ODBC driver to connect to your MS SQL Server. There is one unclear thing in your description of project. Does really human decision making needed or we can do all of that with re ? Well, I have the native English speaking portion you are looking, but I am in the States. I work all sorts of strange hours here, which should translate fairly well for you in the end. The number of hours required may be substantially less, but I left it a little high due to the different data types available in MSSQL versus SQLite. You also didn't mention the amount of data, but I have quite a lot of experience with ETL and making the conversion shouldn't present any problems. PHP is actually my strongest language, but Python can certainly be used. Looking forward to hearing from you. Jesse

Hi, I know that you are looking for Python programmer. Just curious, maybe you want to consider a Windows application instead, using C#.net. Let me know if you are okay with it. So the program will 1a. Read from SQL 2008 table, plus 1 search text box 1b. or Read from csv file and show all data 2. List all the available columns from the source and allow user to map. I am planning to use 1 ComboBox for each input columns. The combo box will list down all the columns in destination table 3. Map it and insert to the SQLite database

I'm a programmer. I believe the experience you'll find in my profile will be ample to accomplish this project. I'm available during Australia time if you like. I'm unclear about the hours needed. You wrote 40 hours and also wrote 1 hour/week. I'm flexible with regards to the hours. If I understood right you're migrating SQL 2008 data to SQLite. Do you have both servers up at the same time?
