Hello, I am looking to create a tool to check the status and authenticity of an email address. From what I understand, what they do is First, check the email format, then look for MX records. Finally, connect to mail server and check if the mailbox actually exist. Some example of sites i want to mimic are the following: [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL]

Here's what I propose as a solid validation system: Step 1) Validate the input as a valid email address using a regular expression. Step 2) Check the DNS of the hostname for valid MX records. Step 3) Determine if the mailbox exists or is a valid alias by sending a rcpt to You didn't explicitly specify, but in the skills required you listed PHP so I assume you'd want it done using that which is fine by me as I'm experienced and comfortable with it. You may require some additional programs installed to deploy.
