Hi
We want to create a simple setup routine for a Linux File server. Not a web server - just a file server.
I work on 2 or 3 sites and we are regularly changing, updating the pcs acting as windows servers
we want to switch to linux for just the server
We wand a simple cd or dvd based setup that will
1 - install linux on any pc
2 - configure it as a file server
3 - so it can see all pcs and all pcs can see it
4 - simple backup scheduling
so we can take this CD/DVD to any pc and run an install wizard that will work on any pc regardless of disk interface, configuration etc
we dont mind changing some settings manually and making some manual interventions but they must be minimal and reliable and we will have the final say if they are acceptable
We want the option of running / booting completely from dvd like knoppix but so server disks, network etc are available once booted
we already have centos 4 but would consider something like knoppix livecd
