XMPP Expert needed for facebook chat app

This is a $50 project. We are currently trying to implement facebook chat into a Blackberry application using the xmpp/jabber protocol. We are able to login to Facebook via oauth and have the user accept the apps requested permissions. We have an xmlreader and xmlwriter set up on a socket connection after logging in. When the facebook account the app uses receives a message from a friend there is some kind of network activity on the socket but the returned character always seems to be -1 and the facebook account never appears online. We are implementing this xmpp client in a very simiar way to jxa which is a j2me xmpp client open source project. What we need help with is getting the chat flow going - sending/receiving chat messages and appearing online. We need someone to point us in the right direction on how to get this working.
