Hello, I am chiefly a behind the scenes kinda developer, I work on servers and do data processing, so this is right up my alley, do check out my profile if you're curious. The proper way to go about this is not how you mentioned, but rather through cron jobs, the actual processing can be done using any available technology on your server box (php, python, bash shell script, perl.. anything that can fetch and commit data from/to the DB really) so you get to pick the tool to be used, and I can advise you based on your software stack. Now, what I need is a detailed description of what needs to be done, db schematics are a tremendous help here. And as I said before I'll need details about your software stack, including versions if at all possible. Say you go with another developer, they should propose the cron job solution, if they don't then this may be your clue that they're still wet behind the ears. I look forward to hearing from you.
