Hi, I am not in favor of modifying Purchase limit plugin as it will not be update able any more. Any update of plugin will remove changes done into plugin by me. We can go with Purchase limit plugin modification approach if it has already been modified and not update able. I would go with a new plugin that will have its own settings to set, days limit and number of items. No other configuration is needed. Please feel free to discuss any aspect of this project.
