I need a subroutine, written in VB6, that does multiple regression or stepped multiple regression. It would take time series data for t=t1 to t2, one dependent variable, and n independent variables, and return the coefficients and standard statistical parameters for each independent variable. The subroutine should have the ability to force using a certain number of “best?? terms regardless of their statistical goodness-of-fit requirement. I don’t have available the necessary algorithm. There are many available in the standard text books but, of course, they are given in very general terms. If you don’t have access to some stock statistical and matrix solution code segments then this job probably is not appropriate for you. I think this project really needs to be done by someone experienced in writing statistical analysis programs. If you qualify please provide some details of your past work. As to the stepped algorithm, I would prefer that the subroutine have a parameter that controls (1) using all n terms in the regression, (2) using a “build up?? method to get the best number of terms, and (3) using a “tear down?? method to get the best number of terms. I know there are many ways of doing these “build up?? and “tear down?? algorithms, and I am willing to accept any that you might be familiar with. They all give the same answer except in strange cases. Of course I would prefer all three cases and I know that it would require significantly more work.
